The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society seeks a Research Associate to join the Environment & Society Portal team. This is a part-time (19h/week) position suitable for Ph.D. candidates. The position starts 1 March 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Portal is a nonprofit education, research, and outreach project that aims to make digital multimedia and interpretive materials in environmental humanities freely and openly accessible to academic communities and the interested public. The RA will be responsible for coordinating a subset of the Portal’s digital collections and exhibitions. Tasks may include researching and writing some content elements; collecting, editing, and entering data into our content management system (Drupal); fact-checking; correspondence with contributing authors and editors; and coordinating copyright permissions.

Qualifications

- Magister, M.A., M.S. or Diplom in humanities, social sciences, or information sciences field required; current dissertation project related to environmental topics a plus
- Strong Internet research skills and office software skills required; knowledge of HTML and Drupal a plus
- Fluency in English and German required; knowledge of other languages a plus
- Ability to work well in a team; independence and reliability; results-oriented attitude; good communication skills

The appointment will be made initially for 6 months with the possibility of renewal. Salary will be determined according to LMU compensation for “wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte.” The Center is located in central Munich and offers a culturally diverse, family friendly, and flexible working environment.
